Neighborhood Development Alliance (NeDA) Receives Mission Award for Anti-Racism from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 2025) — Neighborhood Development Alliance (NeDA) has been honored with the Mission Award for Anti-Racism from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN). The award recognizes organizations demonstrating outstanding leadership in advancing equity, inclusion, and systemic change in their communities. NeDA received the distinction for its ongoing work to close the racial homeownership gap and promote financial empowerment for historically marginalized families across the Twin Cities.
The award-winning programs include culturally competent financial coaching, homeownership education, and equitable lending through NeDA’s Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Centro de Finanzas. These efforts reflect NeDA’s deep commitment to dismantling systemic barriers to wealth-building, stability, and opportunity for families of color.
“When families’ dreams are delayed and hope trembles, NeDA stands firm as a place where stories and culture transform, fortify, and inspire every corner of our community. NeDA was the first to offer homebuying counseling and financial education in Spanish.” said María Steffel, Executive Director of NeDA. “Receiving this recognition from MCN is an honor, but it is also a reminder of the work still ahead. Anti-racism in action requires dedication, courage, and community collaboration, and we are proud to stand alongside our staff, partners, and families in this important work.”
